Paving in Edenvale, Bedfordview and the East Rand
Edenvale, Bedfordview, Kempton Park and Germiston. Established suburbs with older driveways, and a part of Gauteng where ground conditions deserve a question.
Ground conditions on the East Rand
SRK Consulting engineers name the East Rand, with Soweto, the West Rand and Centurion, as areas of Gauteng underlain by dolomite where developments have been troubled by subsidence and sinkholes. They also explain that water concentrating in the ground causes internal erosion. Not every property in Edenvale or Bedfordview is on dolomite, but the question is a fair one to ask before a big paving job.

Older stock, relay demand
Many homes here have driveways laid decades ago. Typical enquiries are relays of sunken sections, replacement of failed driveways and new patios. Where a section keeps sinking, look first for a water source: a leaking pipe, a blocked drain or a gutter discharging onto the paving.

Frequently asked questions
Why does one part of my driveway keep sinking?
Usually a local water source or a weak spot in the base. Find and fix the cause, then relay.
Do you cover Kempton Park and Germiston?
Send your suburb and we will check which contractors cover it.
How do I find out if my stand is on dolomite?
Ask your municipality or a geotechnical engineer for the stand's dolomite stability information.
